Descendants of Norman Winnett (born c. 1784)
Norman Winnett was born in Maryland about 1784, probably in Charles County. In 1802 he married Rebecca and later died at Bartow, Georgia in 1863. He had 12 children, many of whom made their homes in Tennessee particularly around Warren (later Cannon) County. The pedigree of this family is well-publicised for instance here.
Winnetts had certainly been in Maryland prior to Norman. The first mention is that of Thomas Winnett in an immigration index suggesting he came to Maryland in 1667. The name appears several times in the late 1600s and early 1700s. A prominent name in the 1700s in Charles County was that of Mark Winnett, appearing in documents dated 1742, 1774 and 1778. It is possible that he was the father or grandfather of Norman, as one of Norman's sons was given the name Mark.
